Keeping You Up To Date with World Issues Including Natural Disasters That Can Create Sudden Local And Even Global Emergencies.
What You And Your Family Need To Know To Be Prepared.
Straight Talk. No Beans – No Bull – No Holds Barred.

USGS Numbers – Unfudged

Since the US Geological Survey classified the March 11 earthquake in Japan as a 9.0, there have been hundreds of aftershocks there, many of them in the 5.0 or 6.0 and above range. They're happening every single day. They have even had smaller tsunami’s but did you hear about it?
Further afield, around what’s known as the Ring of Fire, in the past 24 hours alone we've had a 6.7 near Java in Indonesia and a 6.4 in the Fiji region. Tsunami concerns were raised in both cases.
Meanwhile, Honshu, Japan, continues to get hammered.
Those of us with any common sense at all should be very concerned about that – and we'll explain why in a minute.
BUT....

Can You Believe This?

Reuters claims that  - “Big earthquakes over the last 30 years have not triggered global chains of massive seismic activity, U.S. scientists reported on Monday.
“But major quakes do trigger other big ones close by and smaller ones far away, researchers said.”
If that isn't doublespeak, we don't know what is.
And here's the typical Mainstream Media spin . “The news is reassuring for California and other quake-prone areas wondering if the 9.0 earthquake which has done so much harm in Japan could hasten troubles outside the region.”

They'd have us believe there's nothing going on that we should worry about at all. Situation normal...carry on.
"Based on the evidence we've seen in our research, we don't think that large, global earthquake clusters are anything more than coincidence," Tom Parsons, a USGS geophysicist and author of a study appearing in Nature Geoscience, said in a statement.”

Which is like saying that if you stub your toe and your eyes water, that's just a coincidence. No connection there folks. Carry on. Nothing to worry about.
Yeah – right! Smack my nose and I'll tell you the rush of blood is a mere coincidence too.

Japan Quake – It's Not Over Yet

Japan Earthquake 1Above - The Japan trench, east of Japan, as revealed by Google Earth.
Some facts.
Wikipedia says the Japan Trench “extends from the Kuril Islands to the Bonin Islands and is 9,000 metres (29,500 ft) at its deepest.”
That's deeper than Mt Everest is high.

Think about that.

Imagine then that Japan is perched atop a high mountain,  and down below, somebody is playing with dynamite.

Japan TrenchA massive trench marks  the northern boundary of the Ring Of Fire.

Worse yet, in this case, they're playing with dynamite under water, and since water cannot be compressed but only displaced, once the dynamite weakens the mountain enough it will collapse into a 29,000 ft deep chasm.

The result? A truly huge tsunami radiating throughout the Pacific Ocean and traveling  faster than a commercial jet airliner - getting ready to crash-land wherever it reaches shore.

Japan Earthquake 2Same Google map, showing recent aftershocks. And many volcanoes.

Fact: Hundreds of aftershocks have been acting like dynamite across a vast area of the Japan Trench,  many above 6.0 Magnitude. They can be seen animated here.

The screen capture below shows their effect, and the location of four nuclear power plants.

Japan Earthquake
So what’s the problem? It's only coincidence that we have melting nuclear reactors, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions to think about.  Can't see any connections there, can you?

Nuclear reactors – and Nature

We are sure that whatever politicians and corporations tell the public, when it comes to a disaster, they're only telling us one per cent of what's really going on.
On April 2 2011 we finally learn that they've discovered a crack below one of the reactors and this is allowing radioactivity to leak into the ocean.
According to Japan's deputy director-general Hidehiko Nishiyama, of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency Tepco (the plant operator) is planning to pour concrete into the pit to seal it.
Another fact – this is likely to take months, with no guarantee of success.
Meanwhile, those aftershocks in Japan remind us of a similar situation in New Zealand, where the city of Christchurch was shattered by an earthquake last September. Thousands of aftershocks followed. And (fact again) after a few weeks (or months) another big one all but decimated what was left of the city.
Facts. Radiation from the melting reactors in Japan has entered the food chain. Cows are eating radioactive grass and producing radioactive milk. Vegetables are inedible. The contamination zone is now 30 miles from the reactors. People are trapped in their homes with no access to clean food and water. (How many are starving? How many have walked out into the contaminated air in search of clean food and water? How much of the water supply for humans is now undrinkable – or killing those who are dying of thirst and drinking what they can find, regardless of the consequences?).
Fact: The ocean off Japan is now radioactive – and these reactors are turning to molten lava, which regardless of how much concrete is poured on top of them will continue to melt everything underneath them – burning their way ever deeper, passing through adjacent underground streams or exuding radiation into the ocean through the cracks and fissures caused by so many ongoing earthquakes.
Question: Could it be that another, and bigger, earthquake may be the only way to solve this issue, before it gets so bad that it will send radioactive dust throughout the world, or turn  the ocean into a lifeless cesspool for thousands of years?

Fact: To date, no significant radiation increase has been detected in the United States. We can say that much with confidence, at least for the Pacific North West, because we have two radiation detectors of our own and we check them regularly.
Nevertheless, as these images indicate, if those reactors release ever more killer particles, this could very well change.
That is, unless Nature does something to alter the equation; to save herself from disaster by unleashing what we would call a catastrophe of unprecedented proportions. She's done it before – and even greater than what has already caused untold death and destruction in Japan.

What Next?

We got an email from a guy who was in Japan, and he's wondering how the Shindaieki tunnel – one of the world’s greatest underground railway engineering feats – fared in that earthquake. He wondered if thousands of people might have been trapped and killed inside it when the earthquake struck.
We do not know if that is the case, but we would be surprised if it didn't make the news at some point in time. (Or would we?). There is also suppose to be a car tunnel between some of the islands.
What we do know is that most foreign countries have been busily evacuating their diplomatic staff from Japan, and “about 200,000 U.S. personnel are being evacuated from Japan to U.S. West Coast cities including San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle/JBLM.”
Text Box: The Shinmoedake volcano erupted in Japan – forcing hundreds to evacuate the area. That would not have been done unless there were genuine concern about the potential for those nuclear reactors to completely melt down – or for more and bigger earthquakes to occur – or for further eruptions of various volcanoes to turn the skies black with killer silica dust that can spread for hundreds if not thousands of miles.
Looking forward, it is not a pretty picture.
And that's no coincidence.
But have those evacuees unknowingly put themselves in greater danger by relocating to West Coast cities? It seems so, especially if there's yet another major earthquake in Japan, big enough to trigger an even bigger tsunami.

Only four years ago an earthquake in the Kuril islands north of Japan triggered a tsunami that rippled throughout the Pacific.
We all know the horrific consequences of the 9.0 'quake in Japan last month.
Since the Bandah Aceh tsunami of 2004 many countries have put in seismic and tsunami warning systems.
Emergency agencies (especially in the US) have created educational videos for most states on the West Coast.  And that's just as well.
According to American Scientist, “geologist Brian Atwater concludes that a massive tsunami struck America's Pacific Northwest more than 300 years ago. He and his colleagues found evidence of this tsunami in sediments along the coast of California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. They believe this is the same tsunami that was recorded striking Japan in January 1700...”
How about something similar in the summer of 2011? Not that we'd say we can predict such an event with perfect accuracy – but why not act now, just in case, and we mean immediately.
That is, if you’re prepared to take Nature’swarnings seriously, if not ours.

The Next Biggie

Text Box: The Oregon Coast, like all the West Coast of the US, Canada, even South America, is vulnerable to tsunamis.Massive tsunamis no doubt travel at massive speeds. That means there may be little time, if any, for tsunami warning centers to get the word out – and it must also mean that since a monolithic tsunami has shattered the US West Coast in the past, there’s no reason to doubt that it could happen again in the future. The near future.
The fact is that the facts speak for themselves.     We have been warned.
But what will we do about it?
As the USGS says, “This video about tsunami preparedness along the West coast distinguishes between a local tsunami and a distant event and focuses on the specific needs of each region. It offers guidelines for correct tsunami response and community preparedness from local emergency managers, first-responders, and leading experts on tsunami hazards and warnings, who have been working on ways of making the tsunami affected regions safer for the people and communities on a long-term basis.”

It includes an animation of a tsunami crossing the Pacific, and while it says  it takes “many hours” to reach our coastline, and that  “you will receive an official warning of the impending danger,” we say that's not good enough.

As we have often said before, living in coastal cities is like living in a death trap – especially if you insist on waiting till the mother of all tsunamis comes a-calling.

They might claim that “distant tsunamis are not as powerful as local tsunamis,” but the fact is, that claim discounts the historical record. We don't. So we can't be accused of scaremongering. As they say, “If you don 't have pre-planning in place you're putting yourself at risk and putting your family in jeopardy.”

Lastly, some of our subscribers are students at the Ramtha School of Enlightenment in Yelm Washington. One email says that in its latest newsletter on line, the school has said “Ramtha foresees more devastating earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific in the weeks ahead. He (has) requested all of his students in Japan to begin evacuating the country (and) also requested all of his students to evacuate the following areas: Taiwan, Indochina, the islands of the Pacific Ocean; plus the coastal areas of Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Rim in the Americas.”

Those are the very countries that Nature has hit with humongous tsunamis in the past.

Be well......prepared.

Uncle Richard – Addendum

There's a lot of truth and a lot of facts in that article, and I for one am taking it seriously.
But then again, I have been in serious preparedness mode for over three decades. That's why we wrote the “Basic Preparedness” manual and home study course (get yours here) that helps most anyone be prepared for most anything.

And for almost that long I have been telling people that Nature has a way of catching us by surprise at the most unexpected moments and in the most life-threatening ways.
A tsunami of the sort the article talks about is most certainly in that category.
Want some proof? Let's hark back to the 1964 tsunami that hit Alaska after a major earthquake.

According to a reader who saw a first draft of this newsletter, “it reminded me of back in my days of talking with old-timers while living in Alaska in the 70's-80's and working the Exxon Valdez spill clean-up.  When we were working some of the bays in Prince William Sound they pointed out how the huge tsunami from the '64 Alaska quake had hit the bays and coves.  The sudden impact with the coastal mountain bays were like an overflowing bowl with the tsunami wiping clean the mountain sides 1500 feet up.

“I would think every bay and cove on the West Coast would be a waiting catapult for the tsunami wave when it hits, sending the wave who knows how much higher.  I can't imagine how high a much larger tsunami from a greater magnitude quake may climb when it hits.  People living on the east side of the first coastal ridge-line in areas around "bowls" could be in for a surprise if they think they are safely on top of  a 2,000' elevation ridge-line above the Pacific.”
But there's more.

I've just read an April 3 article that says “Indian Point 3 has just been named by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as the nuclear react".

Indian Point sits on the east bank of the Hudson River, 38 miles north of New York City, and it has seen a number of malfunctions and emergencies over the years, including spilling radioactive water into the Hudson. It also happens to be built on two fault lines. Yet it is only one of  104 operating commercial units at 64 sites. There are also 34 research reactors at various universities. These numbers do NOT include government reactors operated by the military or DOE.

So here's my concern. Where a mega-tsunami this summer could wipe out most cities on the West Coast, what's going to happen to the East Coast if earthquakes and tsunamis get triggered out there in the Atlantic? Have you seen the documentary that says a super-tsunami could  completely trash the eastern seaboard?

On top of that, what happens when the New Madrid Fault comes to life? Is this image (left) what the US will look like in the future?

Nature does her own thing to preserve herself. We should too.

Best wishes – Uncle Richard.

Footnote:

Fact is, we don't want to scare you.

We want to prepare you.

Remember the Three P's of Preparedness: Preparedness Prevents Panic

That's why we took the plunge and commissioned this very informative “No Beans No Bull” Family Survival News special edition.

Please pass it on (and suggest that people subscribe to this paid newsletter, because we'll be keeping paid subscribers up with the play in future editions as well  -  link above).

If your first emotional reaction to this special issue  is one of disbelief, that's understandable.

But once you cool down and look at the facts, you’ll see that the dots connect in a very logical way.

The hard evidence exists. Mega tsunamis have happened before. Civilizations have even disappeared before – often to the bottom of the ocean, or underneath volcanic ash and lava.

So we’re not telling you anything new – except that the next big events appear to be knocking at the door, very loudly.
